T.S. Eliot's Handwritten Manuscript for "Virginia"

Red river, red river,
Slow flow heat is silence
No will is still as a river
Still. Will heat move
Only through the mocking-bird
Heard once? Still hills
Wait. Gates wait. Purple trees,
White trees, wait, wait,
Delay, decay. Living, living,
Never moving. Ever moving
Iron thoughts came with me
And go with me:
Red river, river, river.

A Tramp on Christmas Day, 1946 web_2720_x_2068 A Beautiful World, 1948 artwork_images_421_757105_grandma-mosesCan I just say that I love Grandma Moses? A major figure in 20th century American folk art, Anna Mary Robertson (1860-1961) didn’t start painting until she was in her 70s, after arthritis prevented her from continuing needle and fabric work. What a great lady- she was featured on the cover of TIME’s 1960 issue to celebrate her 100th birthday. Along with achieving much recognition from Mademoiselle, the National Press Club, the National Association of House Dress Manufacturers (of all things!) and other organizations, she was awarded the first honorary doctorate degree from the Moore College of Art in Philadelphia. In 1969 she got her own commemorative U.S. postal stamp. If you like her style, there is an extensive collection of similar work by various American artists in the Grainger Folk Art Gallery at the Art Institute of Chicago. Also, the American Folk Art Museum in New York City has a renowned collection.
